Las Vegas Sands launches Texas casinos ad campaign

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has begun launching television and radio advertisements in Texas in support of bringing casinos to the Lone Star State.
The company has also founded Texas Destination Resort Alliance, which includes a website that seeks to inform Texans on the economic benefit of building casinos in-state.
The first advertisements were set to launch Thursday, according to the Texas Tribune. One 30-second TV commercial features a narrator who tells viewers, “Every year Texans spend billions of tourism and gambling dollars in casinos in Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, billions that could be staying here.
“This November the legislature can allow Texans to vote to build four world class destination resorts and casinos. … Let’s boost our economy, create tens of thousands of jobs and fund vital services here at home.”
The four resorts would be located in Dallas Forth-Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin according to the Texas Tribune.
LVS has deployed dozens of lobbyists to Austin. They are tasked with persuading state legislators to support casino legislation. LVS faces plenty of resistance, including from Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, an outspoken critic of gambling.
LVS began its push to expand casinos into Texas well before the passing of founder Sheldon Adelson in January. Last year, Adelson spent millions of dollars to back Texas politicians running for office.
The Texas Tribune reports that Adelson’s widow, Miriam Adelson, met with Gov. Greg Abbott and Patrick in Austin last month.
