Coljuegos ramps up illegal gambling offensive, destroys nearly 10,000 elements

Colombian regulator Coljuegos continues to crack down on illegal gambling throughout the region. The organization recently sized 6,291 illegal items and has destroyed nearly 9,774 bingo halls and poker tables,along with slot machines and internet betting modules.

These were in operation outside the legal framework, the regulator said.

Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié commented, “We have taken on the responsibility of protecting the legality and integrity of the sector with total determination.

“Today I want to highlight the commitment of our entity on two fundamental fronts: the fight against illegal gambling and the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorism.”

In its continuing efforts to combat illegal activity, Coljuegos has also asked that more than 27,000 illegal betting websites be blocked. The regulator said this reflects “a significant advance in the containment of platforms that operate outside the law and put bettors at risk.”

“Our message is clear: in Colombia there is no room for illegal gambling or money laundering,” President Hincapié said. “We will continue to work, tirelessly, to protect public assets, guarantee safe environments and promote transparency in every corner of the country.”

He added, “It is no longer just a matter of complying with the norm, but of anticipating, preventing and acting forcefully.”
