The University of West Virginia has announced the opening of a new Support Centre for Gaming Research and Development, funded and developed by Chen and Benjamin Truman.
The research facility’s goal is to aid the promotion and research into responsible gambling practices in the US market and plans to utilize the expertise of relevant professors at the University to help spearhead the initiative.
As listed by West Virginia University in its official press release, the center’s key initiatives will be the expansion of gaming market RG incentives and the improved understanding of problematic gambling behaviors. The center will also push for increased integration of research and analytics into the US curricular system through the development of courses, training and related activities.
Speaking on the development, Professor Brad Humphreys, Director, Center for Gaming Research and Development, said, “The Center’s research, education, and outreach will have an important impact on the lives of state residents, college students throughout the state, gaming industry firms operating in the state, and state gaming regulators.
“This generous gift will allow the Center to fulfill the role envisioned by the state legislature when they passed The Responsible Gaming and Research and Industry Development Act.”
Good to know: In March, West Virginia University also hosted the first-ever responsible gambling symposium
Also commenting was Absolutebet Co-Founder, Benjamin Truman, who said, “We’re thrilled to see West Virginia University take a leadership role in shaping the future of iGaming and sports betting policy. As industry veterans, Chen and I are proud to support a mission that will not only advance responsible gaming but also help set the global standard for innovation and consumer protection in this space.”
Elsewhere in the state of West Virginia, a rise in problem gambling-related helpline calls was reported by the state’s Problem Gambling Help Network in September 2024.
More recently in the RG-sphere, operator DraftKings announced this week it would be running a new NFL competition initiative for Responsible Gambling Awareness Month in September this year.
