The Senate of Salta has approved legislation barring access to casinos, sports stadiums and cultural events for individuals who are in arrears with child support payments.
The bill received final approval during a regular session and will now be sent to the provincial Executive for promulgation.
The proposal was introduced by Senator Javier Mónico, who argued that the law is designed to apply sanctions to those failing to meet their obligations.
He emphasised that the activities targeted are not essential for survival and that restricting them adds pressure for compliance.
“This measure comes as a sanction so that those who do not fulfil child support responsibilities face consequences,” Mónico said, adding that the legislation gained significant public backing after its passage through the Chamber of Deputies.
The senator highlighted the frustrations faced by custodial parents, usually mothers, who struggle when child support payments are not made.

“It causes a sense of helplessness to feel that the judicial system does not provide support or that bureaucracy allows debtors to evade responsibility,” Mónico noted.
The ultimate goal, according to the Senator, is to improve the living conditions of children by guaranteeing effective payment of support.
The law is expected to be promulgated in the coming weeks, following which enforcement measures will be established at casinos, stadiums and other covered venues across the province.
