Dominican Republic authorities seize 66 illegal slot machines

The Dominican Republic’s National Police, in coordination with the Public Ministry and units of the Preventive Police, has carried out a series of operations and raids aimed at dismantling illegal gambling activities across the country. 

The actions are led by the national Central Directory of Intelligence, which is focused on multiple provinces in the country, including the Greater Santo Domingo area.

Authorities reported the seizure of 66 slot machines operating without legal authorisation in informal shops and clandestine casinos. 

Of these, 26 machines were confiscated during raids in the Villa Consuelo neighbourhood while six more were seized in the 27 de Febrero district, where the unlicensed gaming centres were operating.

These actions are essential to reducing the spread of unlicensed gambling, claiming those can expose players to fraud, financial exploitation and other risks due to the absence of regulatory oversight.

Authorities reiterated that both urban and rural areas in the country remain under scrutiny to ensure compliance with the country’s gambling laws.

The operation is part of an ongoing national strategy to tackle illicit gambling operations, which officials say contribute to the increase of national criminal activity and undermine public safety. 

All confiscated equipment has been handed over to the appropriate legal authorities for further action.
