Key Points
- BetMGM adds first Friends-themed slot to its portfolio
- More Friends products are expected to come in future
- Game is launched in Michigan and New Jersey with other markets to folllow
The secret is out: Gaming America now knows that they know that we know that BetMGM has perked up its slot offering with the addition of Friends: “The One With the Multi Drop.”
The game is the work of London-based studio Atlantic Digital and so far has got on the plane to Michigan and New Jersey, though it’s expected to be available in other markets in the future.
Fans of the show expecting a classic Geller lightning round may be disappointed, but will cheer the inclusion of familiar lines like “Pivot!” “How you doin’?” and “You’re my lobster.”
Atlantic and BetMGM partnered up in 2023, with nobody saying the wrong name at the altar, and they have since released a number of cinema and tv-themed slot machines with The Godfather, Star Trek, Ace Ventura and Cheers already part of their stable.
Good to know: Before the creators of the hit show settled on the name Friends, working titles included “Insomnia Cafe,” “Six of One” and “Friends Like Us”
You don’t have to be a ‘transponster’ to see what a revenue opportunity adding such beloved IP to BetMGM’s portfolio represents, and the operator has announced that Atlantic Digital will be developing additional Friends titles for it in the coming months.
Sam Hobcraft, CEO of Atlantic Digital said, “Our mission is to merge world-class entertainment IP with innovative gameplay, and Friends: “The One With the Multi Drop” is a perfect example of that.”
The game itself is set in Monica and Rachel’s apartment and features an instrumental version of The Rembrandt’s “I’ll Be There For You.”
As for gameplay, in the absence of Joey and Chandler’s foosball table is a 6×5 cluster game featuring multi-drop multipliers that accumulate during free spins.
Oliver Bartlett, BetMGM VP of Gaming, said, “BetMGM is proud to be the first to bring Friends to iGaming and offer players a new way to engage with the familiar sights and sounds of the show.”
Which of those familiar sights and sounds will crop up in future offerings will be something of a ‘moo point’ to Friends fans, who will surely just be happy to see the faces of their six favourite friends represented for the first time in iGaming.
