The Bishop of Río Cuarto, Córdoba, Adolfo Uriona, has met with provincial lawmakers to advocate for stronger legislation to restrict online gambling and its advertising.

The bishop highlighted a recently approved ordinance in the city and called for a province-wide ban on online gambling advertising.
He added: “The business interests of a few cannot take precedence over protecting the health of our families, which is why we will continue to push the proposals we put forward in 2024 as a contribution to the community.”

Further actions include blocking gambling promotion in schools, prohibiting payment methods linked to social welfare accounts, and shutting down illegal gambling websites and related bank accounts. The Church also calls for harsher penalties for those enabling minors to gamble.
Additionally, it urges support programs for gambling addiction victims, especially youth and wants to ban public organizations like sports clubs from promoting online gambling.
