Malik Beasley under federal investigation for alleged NBA-related gambling activities

The US District Attorney’s office is investigating Malik Beasley over gambling allegations related to league games, as reported by The Associated Press.

The allegations date back to the 2023–24 season, when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks, according to the report. Beasley averaged 11.3 points over 79 games that season, during which he set a personal record with 77 starts.

Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told ESPN, who first reported the news: “An investigation does not constitute a charge. Malik has the same right to the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the United States Constitution. At this time, he has not been charged with anything.”

In 2020, Beasley, then with the Minnesota Timberwolves, faced legal issues after pleading guilty to a felony charge of making violent threats. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail, which he served following the 2020–21 season. The NBA later suspended him for 12 games in connection with the incident.

In 2023, the NBA suspended former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter after determining he had shared inside information with sports bettors and placed wagers on league games.

This past season, Terry Rozier, then of the Charlotte Hornets, was under investigation for unusual betting patterns linked to a March 2023 game. Authorities looked into his involvement with suspicious activity surrounding the match.
