Light & Wonder confirms leadership transition as CLO James Sottile retires

Key Points
- James Sottile to retire as EVP, CLO and Corporate Secretary of Light & Wonder by end of 2025
- Susan Dawson, Deputy General Counsel since 2018, will step into the CLO role and relocate to Las Vegas
- Sottile will remain with the company in a consulting capacity through 2026
Light & Wonder has announced an important leadership change with the upcoming retirement of its EVP, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary James Sottile, effective December 31, 2025.
The supplier has confirmed that Susan Dawson, currently serving as SVP and Deputy General Counsel, will succeed him in both roles starting January 2026.
Dawson, who joined Light & Wonder in 2012 and has held her current position since 2018, is based in the United Kingdom but will relocate to Las Vegas for her new position. The company has emphasized her experience and tenure in ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
To facilitate this transition, Light & Wonder has amended Sottile’s employment agreement. Instead of earlier provisions, his equity awards will now follow the company’s standard retirement vesting policy for equity grant recipients.

Additionally, a new consulting agreement has been signed, which will keep Sottile onboard in an advisory capacity through 2026. He will receive a monthly consulting fee of $11,959, equivalent to 20% of his 2025 base salary.
Earlier this year, the company also completed the acquisition of Grover Gaming’s charitable gaming division, reinforcing its diversification strategy.
