Indiana May sports betting handle reaches $433.2m

The Indiana Gaming Commission has published its sports betting results for the month of May. The Hoosier State reported a $433.2m handle in May.
Last month’s sports wagering handle reflected a more than $30m increase when compared to results posted one year ago.
Ameristar Casino and Blue Chip Casino combined contributed to more than half of the state’s total sports betting handle and were the top earners for the month of May.
Ameristar’s handle for the month reached $159.2m, while wagers at Blue Chip totaled $128.2m.
Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg grabbed the third-place spot last month, with a $40.4m sports betting handle.
Taxable adjusted gross revenue (AGR) last month reached $43.7m for Indiana’s sportsbooks.
Blue Chip Casino led the pack last month with the largest monthly AGR. The casino posted an AGR of nearly $15.8m. Ameristar followed closely behind with an AGR of nearly $15m.
Sports betting in the Hoosier State generated close to $4.2m in taxes last month.
Mobile sports betting is currently legal in 30 states. Along with the District of Columbia, 38 states have legal and regulated retail sports wagering markets in place.

Sport wagering in Indiana has been legal since September 2019 both in person and online. Former Gov. Eric Holcomb signed the statewide regulated sports betting bill into law a little more than a year after the US Supreme Court overturned the federal ban.
