Electronic payments now accepted by the Buenos Aires Lottery

Until now, cash was the only accepted payment method. Go figure?
Key Points
- Electronic payments are now accepted at all official lottery agencies in Buenos Aires Province
- Winnings can be collected in cash, via bank transfer, or through digital wallets
- Payment methods linked to government social assistance programs remain prohibited for gambling
The Buenos Aires Province Lottery has successfully implemented electronic payments in all of its official agencies.
Up until now, the Lottery was obliged to accept cash only; but at the beginning of February, a decision was taken to start accepting electronic payments via credit, debit cards and virtual wallets.
From now on, bettors will be able to place their wagers using account funds or debit cards through electronic, digital, or virtual wallet payment methods.
However, bettors are not allowed to use electronic payment methods that draw funds from debit cards connected to government welfare programs or social assistance plans, as these resources are intended for essential needs and are legally protected from being used for gambling purposes.
This change in payment methods also extends to lottery prizes. From now on, agencies and winners will be able to receive their winnings in cash, via electronic transfer, or through a digital wallet.
Good to know: In Argentina, about 25% of payments are made in cash, according to the Global Payments Report 2025. Five years prior, the percentage was 54%
This measure is already operating in official agencies, racetracks and their respective off-track betting agencies, and gaming halls in the province.
The Buenos Aires Province Lottery has been working on modernizing its resources and services. Last month, it launched an app targeted at official agents as a tool designed to streamline and improve communication between the Institute and official agents.
