Vermont posts $22.9m sports betting handle during March

Vermont’s Department of Liquor and Lottery has published its sports betting results for the month of March. Its sports betting handle reached more than $22.9m last month.
Players placed more than 777,000 bets were placed in Vermont last month, with the average wager amounting to $29.53.
However, players from neighboring states did their part in helping Vermont reach that $22.9m mark. Out-of-state players accounted for more than a fourth of all bets placed last month and wagered nearly $7.1m.
Players outside of Vermont also placed higher bets on average than those who live in the state. The average bet per out-of-state player was $41.13 last month, which was more than $15 higher than the average wager placed by Vermont residents.

Last month, players in Vermont took home more than $21.4m in winnings. Vermont’s operators posted almost $1.3m in adjusted gross sports wagering revenue during March, nearly half of the revenue reported in February.
Last month, basketball was the game of choice for Vermont’s sports wagerers. Bets placed on basketball totaled $10.9m, almost half of the state’s total monthly handle.
Soccer and tennis grabbed the number two and three spots for the month, generating nearly $2.1m and $1.7m respectively.
Hockey wagers last month generated another $0,9m to add to Vermont’s total handle, while eBasketball chipped in close to $0.5m. All other sports contributed the remaining $7m.
To date, 38 states have established legal and regulated sports betting markets since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in May 2018, also known as the Bradley Act.
