Detroit casino revenue decreases 5.6% during February 2025

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has released the state’s casino revenue throughout February 2025, as the three properties that report to the MGCB generated $98.8m of revenue during the period, representing a decrease of 5.6% year-over-year. 

MGM Grand Detroit accounted for $46.4m of gaming revenue for February 2025, but the figure equates to a decrease of 5.9% from the prior year period. 

MotorCity Casino Hotel and Hollywood Casino at Greektown witnessed falls in gaming revenue of 10.1% and 2.7%, respectively, having generated $28.4m and $23.2m throughout the month. 

Table games and slots represented nearly all of the casino revenue reported during February 2025, having generated $98m for the period, while retail sports betting produced just $815.6k in revenue. The three properties reported a February 2025 retail sports betting handle of $8.2m, representing a decrease of 37.9% from the prior year period.

The $98m in table game and slot revenue equates to a decrease of 6.4% year-over-year, while retail sports betting revenue actually managed to increase due to the negative $124.9k of revenue reported during February 2024.

During February 2025, the three Detroit casinos paid $7.9m in state gaming taxes, compared to $8.5m from the prior year period, while also submitting $11.7m in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the city throughout the month. 

MotorCity Casino Hotel generated $566.3k of the retail sports betting revenue for February 2025, with MGM Grand Detroit accounting for $202.1k and Hollywood Casino at Greektown producing the remaining $47.2k. 

For January 2025, fantasy contest operators reported total adjusted revenues of $1.3m and paid taxes of $109.5k.
