Indiana generates $538.7m handle during January

The Indiana Gaming Commission has published its sports betting results for the month of January. The Hoosier State posted a $538.7m handle for the month.
Last month’s handle reflected a $58m increase when compared to results posted in January 2024.
Ameristar Casino and Blue Chip Casino combined contributed to more than half of the state’s total sports betting handle and were the top earners for the month of January.
Ameristar’s handle for the month reached $185.8m, while wagers at Blue Chip totaled $181.1m.
Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg grabbed the third-place spot during January, with a $43m sports betting handle.
Taxable adjusted gross revenue (AGR) for the month reached $55m for Indiana’s sportsbooks, nearly $2m higher than one year ago.
Blue Chip Casino led the pack last month with the largest January AGR. The casino posted an AGR of nearly $22m. Ameristar followed closely behind with an AGR of $20.3m.
January sports betting in Indiana generated close to $5.2m in taxes.

Sport wagering in Indiana has been legal since September 2019 both in person and online. Former Gov. Eric Holcomb signed the statewide regulated sports betting bill into law a little more than a year after the US Supreme Court overturned the federal ban.
Mobile sports betting is currently legal in 30 states. Along with the District of Columbia, 38 states have legal and regulated retail sports wagering markets in place.
In other state news, the Indiana House Public Policy Committee recently approved a proposal to legalize iGaming and allow Hoosier Lottery players the option of purchasing their tickets online.
The House committee passed two proposals, one that would allow legal online gaming as well as allowing the Hoosier Lottery to sell tickets online, and another that would permit veterans organizations, bars and charitable entities to house electronic pull tab machines.
