DNSFilter has released data gathered in the weeks leading up to Super Bowl LIX that exemplifies malicious intent from certain sports betting domains and key security threats where unsanctioned streaming and gambling activities increased.
On February 9, when Super Bowl LIX took place, DNSFilter blocked 57% more malicious content related to gambling and betting compared to the rest of the NFL postseason.
The content filtering platform stated that its previous highs were recorded during Super Bowl LVIII and 2024 March Madness.

The platform also stated that 20% of the malicious gambling domains identified during the NFL Playoffs used a string of numbers in its title, said to be a common tactic for “mirror” sites that are looking to evade detection.
DNSFilter categorized the majority of malicious domains as malware, with most traffic having been generated from newly registered domains.
Compared to February 2024, DNSFilter stated that daily traffic to all gambling sites has increased by 71%, surpassing the platform’s overall network growth of 16%.
