Indiana House committee says ‘yes’ to legal iGaming proposal

Key Points
- The House and Senate would still need to pass this bill before Hoosier will have access to iGaming
- The market could open September 1 if the bill is signed into law
The Indiana House Public Policy Committee has approved a proposal that would bring legal iGaming and online lottery sales to the Hoosier State, according to a recent NWI Times report.
The House committee passed two proposals, one that would allow legal online gaming as well as allowing the Hoosier Lottery to sell tickets online, and one that would permit veterans organizations, bars and charitable entities to house electron pull tab machines.
Under the terms of the iGaming bill, the online sports betting tax would increase to 20%, but the rate for retail sports wagering locations would stay at 9.5%.
The bill also mandates that studios in Indiana host live dealer online table games “enhancing efforts to collect unpaid child support from gaming jackpot winners; and improving promotion of the state’s 800-9-WITH-IT gambling problem hotline.”
The committee passed House Bill 1432 (for legal iGaming and iLottery) by a vote of 9-2 and approved the pull tab machines bill, House Bill 1433 in a vote of 13-0. Further, state Representative Ethan Manning of Logansport authored both proposals.
In related recent news, the state of Indiana released its November 2024 casino figures last month, revealing an AGR figure of $191.7m.
Good to know: Indiana currently has 13 commercial casinos
The legislation will now move up to the House and Senate for approval during the next few months. However, Representative Manning told local news that “both measures are likely to be repeatedly revised and possibly derailed.”
Should the proposal be signed into law, statre residents could have access to iGaming by September 1.
Its newest facility, Terre Haute Casino Resort, opened last spring. The destination is owned and operated by Churchill Downs Incorporated.
