Delaware Lottery becomes level two participant in Gift Responsibly campaign

The state joins lotteries and community organizations across North America and the world to raise awareness about the risks of underage lottery use.
Key Points
- The campaign is organized by the NCPG and the International Center for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University
- As a level two participant, the Delaware Lottery will use social media and retailer support to promote awareness about the risks of underage lottery use
The Delaware Lottery has announced its commitment as a level two participant in the 2024 Gift Responsibly campaign, organized by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and the International Center for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University.
“Exposing minors to gambling can lead to gambling problems later in life and it’s important to educate audiences about those potential issues,” Delaware Lottery Director Helene Keeley said.
“It’s important to remember that Delaware Lottery players must be 18 or older to play or purchase Instant and Draw Games, and 21 or older for Sports Pick parlay cards, Sports Mobile and iGaming.”
According to the announcement, research shows that the earlier a person’s participation or exposure to gambling is in childhood, the more likely they are to develop a gambling problem later in life. Gambling exposure during childhood is often through some kind of lottery product, such as lottery tickets or scratch-offs.
As a level two participant of the 2024 Gift Responsibly Campaign, the Delaware Lottery will use social media and retailer support to promote awareness about the risks of underage lottery use throughout December 2024.
Good to know: The NCPG announced that 74 lotteries and 101 community organizations worldwide have signed up to participate in the 2024 Gift Responsibly campaign on December 10
“The potential long-term risks associated with underage gambling exposure cannot be understated,” NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte said.
“We applaud the Delaware Lottery for their commitment to raising awareness about the risks of youth gambling and for working to educate the community that lottery tickets are never appropriate gifts for children.”
