Iowa reports $295m October sports wagering handle

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has published its sports wagering results for the month of October. Last month, the Commission reported nearly $295m in statewide sports betting handle.
October’s handle rose by almost $40m when compared to what the state posted a year ago.
Sports wagering net receipts reached nearly $18.4m during the month of October, down close to $9m compared to what the state reported in September.
Last month, 19 operators took online bets from Iowa players, accounting for total internet sports betting handle of close to $275m.
Players statewide took home $276.5m in winnings during October. Almost $257.2m of those wins came from wagers that were placed online.
Last month, sports wagering in Iowa contributed more than $1.2m in taxes.
Iowa opened its regulated sports wagering market more than a year after the US Supreme Court overturned the federal sports betting ban.

Local officials recently pitched a plan to the state’s gambling regulator regarding a proposed casino project proposed by the Linn County Gaming Association and its partner Peninsula Pacific Entertainment.
The completed destination would be home to a casino with 700 slot machines and 22 table games. The site would also feature a 1,500-seat entertainment venue, several restaurants, bars and an arts and cultural center.
To date, 38 states, as well as the District of Columbia have legalized sports wagering since the US Supreme Court lifted the federal ban on the practice in May 2018.
Voters in Missouri passed a ballot measure during the recent election to bring a regulated sports betting market to the state. This brings Missouri one step closer to being the 39th state to offering legalized sports wagering.
