- The regulator published 15 activity principles
- These are intended to protect consumers
The Instituto Brasileiro de Jogo Responsável (IBJR) has established a list of principles for players that are intended to “ensure consumer protection in online gambling activities” throughout the country.
The regulator said in a recent social media post, “All signatories and members of the IBJR, which represent about 75% of the Brazilian market and applicants for licenses under Law 14,790/23, commit to complying with the principles in their operations and encouraging affiliated third parties, such as content creators, influencers and social media profiles, as well as brand ambassadors, to adopt them whenever applicable.
“This commitment reflects the importance of promoting a safe and responsible environment for all players.”
The IBJR published 15 principles that include protection for minors, providing clear and accessible information, the promotion of a unified national helpline, self-exclusion tools, only working with third-party providers that are properly licensed, and evidence-based consumer protection research and initiatives.
Brazil is scheduled to open its regulated gaming market January 1, 2025.
Good to know: The country’s bet management system has received 121 applications, according to its website
LOTERJ recently decided to reopen the application window for betting accreditation due to “high demand for regularization” in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The new deadline ran from September 5 to September 20, giving businesses a 15-day window to file applications.
More than 100 applications were filed for iGaming licenses in Brazil during the previous August 20 deadline, following the establishment of ordinance 1,207, a document that lays out the rules and regulations for fixed-odds betting operators.
