Ohio senator proposes iGaming legislation
Players have had access to legal sports betting for more than a year.
The Buckeye state could be one step closer to welcoming a legal iGaming market.
Ohio Senator Niraj Antani has introduced a bill that would expand statewide gambling from racino and brick-and-mortar locations to the internet, according to a WKEF local report.
Players around the state have had access to a regulated sports betting market since January 2023.
Antani released a statement to local news, outlining why he believes a regulated iGaming market could be in the best interest of Ohio residents.
He commented, “As gaming has evolved in our state and we’ve seen massive success with sports betting, it’s now time to legalize iGaming in Ohio. Many Ohioans don’t have close access to a casino or racino but should be able to participate in this entertainment option.
“It’s time to bring iGaming out of the black market, and into the sunshine to provide it safely to all Ohioans.”
The state’s Casino Control Commission recently submitted a new rule regarding promotions and bonuses.
The amendment states that promotions must be unambiguous and clear. “Terms and conditions that are full, accurate, concise, transparent, and do not contain misleading information,” the commission stated.
More specifically, these offers need to include dates and times they are active and expire and must display rules of play, nature and value of awards or prizes, as well as what makes someone eligible.
To date, more than 35 states in the US have opened legal regulated sports wagering markets since the Supreme Court overturned the previously established nationwide sports betting ban in 2018.
