Segev LLP opens new Alberta office with online gaming regime expected soon
The Canadian law firm now has approximately 23 lawyers across Alberta, Vancouver, Toronto and the US, with a presence that extends into India as well.
Segev LLP has announced the opening of its newest office in Alberta, Canada, a move inspired to help clients access Alberta opportunities within the online gaming and betting industry. The Canadian law firm sees the new office as a strategic decision that will allow it to service key markets across Canada.
“We try to anticipate the needs of current and future clients and being able to service those needs in Alberta will become a greater priority for many of them,” Segev LLP Founding Partner Ron Segev said.
On June 20, Politician and Alberta Minister of Service Dale Nally spoke at the Canadian Gaming Summit, detailing the province’s plans for movement towards a regulated gaming market.
According to Nally, the province is looking to base its market off the Ontarian model, following its official regulation just over two years ago. He also stated that while there may be some alterations to its provincial cousin’s model, Alberta’s market will be ‘open and free.’
Alberta is soon expected to announce its new online gaming and betting regime in hopes of establishing a more formal presence in the province. Segev LLP will now have approximately 23 lawyers across Alberta, Vancouver, Toronto and the US, with a presence that extends into India as well.
Currently, there is only one regulated gaming operator active in the province. Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is the owner and operator of PlayAlberta, which introduced BtoBet to the Canadian market during the summer of 2023.
Nally stated that the AGLC would not be involved in the regulation of any operators looking to enter the province in order to avoid any conflict of interest that may arise from data and information sharing between potential competitors.
