Officials deny reports Encore Boston Harbor is for sale

Casino president sends letter to employees refuting local media report.
After a local media outlet reported Encore Boston Harbor is for sale, the casino resort’s president sent an e-mail to employees saying the rumor was false.
The Everett Leader Herald on Friday ran a story citing an unnamed source, who said the casino was for sale. On Saturday, Brian Gullbrants responded by sending a message directly to all staff members.
“It has been falsely reported that Encore Boston Harbor is for sale. I want to assure you that our company has not engaged in any conversations about the sale of the property,” Gullbrants said in the e-mail, which was first reported by MassLive.
Gullbrants went on to say the management team is “very excited about and committed to the future” of the resort.
“We cannot wait until we fully re-open, and we have all of our team members back with us every day. The team is hard at work planning for the future of Encore post-COVID, and we can’t wait to share all of these exciting new ideas with you,” he continued.
Encore Boston Harbor opened in June 2019, and along with many other businesses around the world, has struggled with shutdowns and restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. The property had to lay off 385 employees in August.
After the state government issued a 9:30 p.m. curfew for casinos in November, Wynn Resorts said furloughs of 670 to 1,000 full-time equivalent workers were possible. The company’s Las Vegas properties have been closing hotel rooms mid-week due to low demand.
