Brazil: CCJ says ‘yes’ to casino, bingo, jogo do bicho and horseracing

The Commission on Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) has given Brazil the green light to authorize casino and bingo operations throughout the country, according to a Senatosnoticias local report. This will also pave the way to legal jogo do bicho and allow Brazilian players to be on horseracing.
The commission passed the proposal by a vote of 14 to 12.
The current bill, PL 2,234/2200 will now move to the Senate Plenary for approval. The proposal has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies.
Rapporteur Senator Irajá expressed during the recent meeting that he believes expanding gambling in the region could lead to economic growth, which includes increased revenue and more jobs.
He told local reporters, “We can no longer miss this great opportunity that other competing countries have already understood and seen to generate jobs, income and taxes, which will obviously be reverted to benefits to the Brazilian people in the most essential areas, such as health, education, social and infrastructure.
“Even in the misdemeanor, gambling already constitutes a relevant economic activity and, as such, should be subject to regulation by the State.”
In other regional news, Global iGaming solutions provider Softswiss recently kicked off a campaign in Brazil that will offer aid to those affected by last month’s severe flood.
The Rio Grande do Sul experienced a severe flood last month and is still reeling from its effects. Urban areas throughout the area are still submerged, a problem local experts say might not go away any time soon.
