Coljuegos investigates over 680 illegal gaming operations

The Management Against Illegal Operations of Coljuegos has opened a substantial number of investigations into illegal gambling operations throughout Colombia.
The regulator has opened 681 administrative sanctioning processes throughout the region that involve raffle, novel, localized and promotional games ‘that allegedly would be operating without a concession contract and that, therefore, would be ceasing to transfer resources for health.’
In a breakdown of the investigative process, 621 of the total cases ‘correspond to citizen complaints for the alleged illegal operation of localized games such as bingo halls, electronic slot machines, roulette wheels and internet betting modules,’ Coljuegos said.
Another 25 gaming operators are under investigation for allegedly operating machines that are not currently registered with the regulator but are present in legal casinos without a concession contract.
Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié further discussed the details of the investigation by saying, “Currently, from the entity we have opened 35 inquiries in to raffles and promotions that were carried out at the national level, which did not have the authorization of Coljuegos and would not have paid the respective exploitation rights and administration expenses.
“From the entity, we are implementing a shock plan to address the large number of illegal gambling situations that occur in the country. In addition, we are signing pacts for legality in different regions so that territorial entities can help us fight against these criminal structures.”
He went on to explain the group’s motivation to continue combatting illegal operations.
Hincapié said in closing, “Illegality in the gambling sector is estimated at about $1.5bn annually. For this reason, we are implementing strategies that allow us to strengthen our fight against those who operate without the respective authorization.”
Coljuegos serves Colombia as its regulatory body for games and luck and chance.
The organization maintains a philosophy of fostering growth within the industry through sustainable methods. Several notable sites, including Betplay, Rushbet and Codere, follow Coljuegos’ regulations. Last week, the regulator announced plans to work with operators to combat illegal portals and verify user complaints.
