Arizona sports betting hits new record with $759.8m wagered in March

The Arizona Department of Gaming has released the sports betting wagering totals for March of 2024, reporting a new record with $759.8m wagered throughout the month. Online gaming accounted for the vast majority of the handle, with bettors having placed $752.4m in bets through online sportsbook apps.
Total revenue from sports betting in the state came out to just over $38m, with online betting once again leading the way, making up $37.2m of the total figure. FanDuel and DraftKings were the leading operators for amount wagered online during the month, as FanDuel was reported having $265.1m in wagers placed while DraftKings was a close second at $255.3m.
Caesars reached an online handle of $50.7m in March, while BetMGM finished at just under $94m. Bet365 actually finished ahead of ESPN Bet in March, reporting an online handle of just under $29.3m compared to $26.9m in handle for ESPN Bet.
Only four operators in the state offer retail sports betting, including DraftKings and FanDuel as well as Caesars and BetMGM. Both Caesars, $705,612, and BetMGM, $650,512, failed to clear $1m in retail handle.
Arizona originally made sports betting legal in April of 2021, allowing residents to place bets starting in September of the same year. The state also has many professional sports teams that have signed partnerships with sportsbook operators to open on-site locations at each team’s venue. The Arizona Cardinals football team partnered with BetMGM, The Diamondbacks baseball team has a Caesars sportsbook in its venue and the Phoenix Suns partnered with FanDuel to open a sportsbook at its basketball arena.
Operators that fell behind in online handle include Bally Interactive, only reporting $798,700 in wagers placed for the month of March. Golden Nugget Online Gaming reported the lowest total of online handle for operators, reporting only $284,269 wagered on the app.
In March of 2023, Arizona bettors reached an overall handle of $644m, with the March 2024 figure representing a 17.8% increase year-over-year for the state.
