Indiana casinos post $394m April sports betting handle
Its newest location, Terre Haute Casino Resort, opened last month.
The Indiana Gaming Commission has released its April casino sports wagering report. The Hoosier State’s sports betting handle grew by close to 23% when compared to results from this time last year.
The state posted almost $37.1m in adjusted gross revenue during the month of April. Indiana’s 13 casinos contributed more than $3.5m in taxes last month.
So far this year, Indiana’s casinos have paid more than $521m in taxes.
Ameristar Casino continues to hold the number one spot for the highest sports wagering activity. Hoosiers placed more than $145.7m in bets at Ameristar through DraftKings Indiana during the month of April.
Online wagers accounted for $169.2m of Ameristar’s total handle.
Other heavy hitters during the month included Blue Chip Casino, who partners with FanDuel and Belterra Casino. Blue Chip Casino brought in a nearly $129.1m sports betting handle in April, while the total hand at Belterra reached $31.6m.
Indiana’s newcomer, Terre Haute Casino Resort, took in a sports betting handle of more than $161,000. The casino made its debut on April 5.
Terre Haute offers its guests 1,000 slot machines, 35 live table games, a sportsbook and a poker room within its 400,000 square feet of gaming space. The destination is scheduled to open its hotel May 15.
Sport wagering in Indiana has been legal since September 2019. Governor Eric Holcomb signed the statewide regulated sports betting bill into law a little more than a year after the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA.
To date, more than 35 states have embraced regulated sports betting since the US Supreme Court ruling in May 2018.
