Colorado regulator launches new responsible gambling campaign
It is designed to raise awareness and encourage players to use legal gaming venues.
The state of Colorado has launched its 2024 Colorado Illegal Gaming Awareness Campaign. This year’s theme, “Play Legit. Gamble Only Where Legal” is designed to raise public awareness and encourage players to gamble in legal markets statewide.
The Colorado Division of Gambling said in an online statement, “In Colorado, gambling opportunities abound, but not all are legal. Illegal gambling operations not only fail to protect players but can also serve as a breeding ground for serious crimes, including fraud, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and burglary, posing a threat to public safety and community well-being.
“Participants in illegal gambling activities also compromise personal and financial information, putting individuals at risk of identity theft, unreliable payouts, and potential legal consequences, such as fines and imprisonment.”
This year’s campaign aims to support legal gaming venues, including Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek casinos, along with online sports betting and off-track betting.
Colorado Division of Gaming Director Chris Schroder further explained the motivation for creating a campaign like this and the potential impact it could have on players throughout the state.
He commented, “With many certified and legal gambling sites available, it’s never worth it to put yourself in danger.
“Together, let’s play by the rules and ensure that Colorado remains a safe and responsible gaming destination. By recognizing and preventing illegal gambling, we all win.”
To date, more than 35 states have embraced regulated sports betting since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in May 2018, also known as the Bradley Act.
