Caesars Windsor located on the Ontario Michigan border is the latest Canadian casino to temporarily shut its doors amid a rise in Covid-19 cases.

The property will close 30 Nov at midnight with no reopening date yet in place.

Windsor-Essex was recently moved into the red level of Ontario’s Covid response. Cases in the county are at an all-time high with 14 people hospitalized.

A statement from the casino said, “The safety of our guests, team members, and community is our top priority, and as such, we will continue to follow the recommendations of provincial and local public health units.”

Caesars Windsor is located along the Detroit River and attracts many Detroit residents, who cross country lines through the Detroit Windsor Tunnel. The 100.000 square-foot casino holds more than 2.500 slots and 88 table games.

The casino also employs approximately 2,000 people.

Caesars Windsor joins a handful of other Ontario casinos that have recently implemented temporarily shutdowns. Those properties include two casinos operated by Great Canadian Gaming Corp.

Across the border, Detroit’s casinos are in the middle of a three-week shutdown per an order from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The shutdown is scheduled to expire by 7 Dec. but could be extended longer if cases in Michigan are still high.
