Several building permit applications have been filed in Clark County between March and October for billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s proposed 43-story casino resort on the Las Vegas Strip, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal local report. Fertitta gained initial approval for the project nearly one year ago.
Last year’s approval allowed Fertitta to move forward on a two-year project to build a 2,420-room upscale hotel. Once completed, the venue would be home to a 2,500-seat theater, several restaurants, a convention space, a spa and a wedding chapel.
The permits requested are specifically for a base podium as part of the resort’s initial phase of construction.
The new resort will sit on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue, and will take up 6.2 acres of land, which was the former home of the Tex Mex Tequila Bar & Grill.
Fertitta currently owns the Golden Nugget in Downtown Las Vegas, as well as several restaurant chains that include Bubba Gump Shrimp, Mastro’s Steakhouse and Rainforest Cafe.
He recently announced plans to purchase the Hard Rock hotel-casino in Lake Tahoe and update the destination to join the Golden Nugget brand. No price has been disclosed for the pending purchase.
The billionaire also recently bought an oceanfront property in Laguna Beach, California that includes a 260-room resort on 30 acres, according to the local report.
A spokesperson for Fertitta told the Review-Journal that there are “no updates to share at this time” regarding the project’s forward momentum.
Clark County said it is “still reviewing most of these permits, and those under review aren’t being released to the public.”
