Its first poker tournament is scheduled for October 12.

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment has unveiled its new poker room at Starlight Casino New Westminster that features both no-limit and limit stakes options, according to a local news report in the New Westminster Record.

The Starlight Casino’s four-table poker room is home to seven flat-screen TVs, various stake levels of play and a daily breakfast special as part of its exclusive menu.

The casino’s General Manager, Saad Fadl-Alla, told the New Westminster Record that the new poker room was an answer to feedback from guests and said the destination is excited to offer patrons additional gaming options.

In celebration of the opening, Gateway said it will host a charity poker tournament that will allow players to support their charity of choice.

The event will kick off on October 12 at 6 PM.

Several players of note are scheduled to attend and participate in the tournament, including former poker pro Matt Jarvis, Canadian pickleball champion Steve Deakin, Ruby Campbell, Musqueam Indian Band Chief Wayne Sparrow and MMA fighter Gary Mangat. Actors Aaron Douglas, Ryan Robbins and Aleks Paunovic are also expected to play in the tournament.

New Westminster Mayor Patrick Johnstone will also play in the upcoming event and expressed his excitement to participate.

He said in an official statement, “I am excited to have been invited to Starlight Casino’s charity poker tournament in their new poker room.

“I will be joining a fantastic roster of local celebrities, all playing for charitable causes that are meaningful to them. I’m sure it will be a memorable evening.”

Starlight Casino’s new poker room hours are 11 AM to 3 AM Sundays through Thursdays. On Fridays and Saturdays, the poker room is open 24 hours a day.
