Louisiana mobile sports betting wagers rise 18.6% year-over-year for July

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) has published its sports betting and casino results for the month of July. The state took in more than $122.5m in mobile sports betting wagers during the month.

Mobile sports betting wagers in July increased by 18.6% year-over-year. More players placed wagers on baseball through their mobile devices in July than on any other sport. Bettors wagered close to $2.7m on baseball last month.

However, retail sportsbooks around the state saw a significant decline in activity during July. Wagers at retail locations dropped by 19.4% when compared to results from July 2022. Total bets placed last month at various Louisiana retail sports books totaled $12.2m.

Parlay was the game of choice for retail sportsbooks in July, with bets for the month reaching more than $1.2m.

Casino revenue for July also reflected a downward trend when compared to results from the previous month and to July 2022. Louisiana’s Harrah’s New Orleans Casino posted a gross gaming revenue of nearly $17.5m during July, down 11.9% when compared to June’s results and down 22.8% year-over-year.

The state’s riverboat casinos brought in a total of $146.6m in adjusted gross revenue (AGR).

Slots at the state’s racetracks reported slight increases in activity during July versus results from last month and last year.

Evangeline Downs posted the largest boost in play during July, with a 7.3% spike in adjusted gross revenue. The destination raked in a total AGR of nearly $6.5m.

The largest contribution during July came from Delta Downs. Its July AGR reached more than $14.2m.

Total revenue from Louisiana’s slots was almost $27.6m. All four racetracks generated close to $4.2m in state tax payments.
