Numbers from last month reflect a decline when compared to large winnings in January.

After celebrating large wins that totaled $282.2m during the month of January, Louisiana gaming has cooled off in February.

Lousiana yielded more than $212m in winnings from players during the month through four primary areas. Online sportsbooks, retail sportsbooks and racetrack slots, as well as poker, slots and table games contributed to the state’s total winnings in February.

While numbers from last month reflect a “slight decline” year-over-year, PlayUSA noted that Louisiana sportsbooks improved their performance when compared to totals from 2022. Analysts credit the state’s sportsbooks for keeping the rate of decline low for the month of February.

The state’s sportsbooks collected nearly $175m in wagers and won $17m.

Slots at racetracks also saw boosts in winnings during February. During the month, racetrack slot revenue grew by 8.4% when compared to last year’s corresponding period. Total winnings reached $2.1m in February.

However, riverboats experienced decline. Last month, riverboats saw a decrease in revenue of nearly $7m year-over-year and brought in total revenue of $144.2m.

Super Bowl LVII did not impact the month’s results as significantly as the Big Game has in years past. Analysts noted that action during both the playoffs and the Super Bowl “tends to be bigger” and said this was the case in Louisiana last year.

Conversely, the lack of activity during this year’s game was an advantage for the state’s sportsbooks, according to analysts. Sportsbooks won 7.9% of wagers placed one year ago. Last month, the ratio of wagers to winnings reached more than 10%.
