The American Gaming Association (AGA) has published the results of a recent survey regarding the upcoming Super Bowl LVII. According to its report, nearly 50.4 million American adults are expected to place wagers on the Big Game.
This projection accounts for almost 20% of US adults. Current AGA estimates based on the survey show that this year’s Super Bowl wagers could rise by 61%, when compared to last year’s bets.
The AGA report also said Super Bowl bettors plan to bet an estimated $16bn on the game, a figure that nearly doubles what was projected last year.
In a breakdown according to betting type, the survey showed that a potential 30 million Americans plan to place their sports wagers online, with a bookie or at a retail sportsbook location. This year’s estimates reflect a 66% rise when compared to figures from 2022.
Another 28 million football fans plan to place casual wagers as a part of a pool, squares contest or with friends, according to the survey.
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller commented: "Every year, the Super Bowl serves to highlight the benefits of legal sports betting: bettors are transitioning to the protections of the regulated market, leagues and sports media are seeing increased engagement, and legal operators are driving needed tax revenue to states across the country.
"As interest in legal sports betting continues to expand, the gaming industry remains committed to responsibly delivering world class entertainment, educating consumers about how to bet responsibly, and combating illegal gambling as we work to build a safe, competitive and sustainable legal market for all."
The AGA attributes the surge in activity partially to the expansion of regulated sports betting around the United States.
