The license paves the way for new company partnerships within the state commercial market.

Genius Sports has been awarded a temporary sports betting vendor license by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. The approval gives Genius Sports a total of 41 licenses to operate throughout North America, as well as to develop partnerships within the state.

The company is currently functional in several states throughout the US, as well as in select Canadian provinces.

Company CEO Mark Locke elaborated on the group’s ongoing expansion plans and commended the Massachusetts state regulator for its part in giving players access to additional sports betting options.

He commented: “We are honored that the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has awarded Genius Sports its temporary sports wagering vendor authorization to provide licensed sportsbooks with access to our exclusive NFL wagering products and media solutions.

“As an ever-expanding number of US states legalize sports betting, Genius Sports welcomes the opportunity to work with states like Massachusetts, on providing sports fans with official sports data-powered solutions to power their sportsbooks.”

Massachusetts is the latest state to open a regulated sports betting market for its residents. State Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill to legalize online sports betting last summer.

The commercial retail market officially opened January 31, ahead of the upcoming Super Bowl LVII. The state anticipates that online sports betting will go live in early March.

Genius Sports has functioned as the NFL’s official content distributor since April 2021. The duo recently expanded their ongoing sports betting content agreement to include sportsbook platforms throughout the United States.

The initial partnership covered international markets but did not have a US focus, which is a key component of the amended agreement.
