Olympic-Like Competition Coming to CoinPoker Later This Month
CoinPoker has teased an Olympic-like competition of some sort, set to take place on the crypto poker platform starting on Aug. 23 and running for more than a full month until Sept. 28.
Not much has been released about the competition, dubbed the Global Online Poker Championship (GOPC). It will carry a $50 million guarantee across the entire series.
That makes it a bold new frontier in terms of festival guarantees for CoinPoker. The site’s prior big tournament series, Battle of Malta Online, guaranteed $30 million.
Limited Details Surround Global Online Poker Championship
The GOPC sounds like it will be broken down by both buy-in tier and time zone.
Each event will have three buy-in tiers, a staple of online poker tournament festivals held on CoinPoker. That will allow players of all bankroll levels to compete. Additionally, the schedule will cater to players in Asian time zones, North/Latin America, and Europe. Each region will get its own specially curated schedule.
That will also have the downstream effect of allowing regional champions to emerge, hence the Olympics-like feel to the teaser. Furthering that comparison, CoinPoker announced that winners will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals.
So, presumably, there will be a North American pot-limit Omaha champion, a European one, etc. There could be region-specific leaderboards or even champions’ competitions pitting the winners against each other for some extra prizes. Further details will undoubtedly emerge in the coming weeks, since the GOPC is set to begin on Aug. 23.
