DraftKings has announced that, following a mandatory test period from November 21 – 22, it expects to launch its sportsbook in Maryland on the 23rd. Pending regulatory approvals, the operator hopes for it to be live in time for an NFL action-packed Thanksgiving Day.
DraftKings Co-Founder and President Matt Kalish commented: “With an active sports season currently underway, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to launch our top-rated sportsbook app in Maryland.
“Our product delivers fans an exciting sports betting experience, and we would like to thank the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, Governor Hogan and the General Assembly for bringing online sports wagering to Maryland.”
Once it is live, DraftKings will be able to offer Marylanders legal bets across the NFL, NHL, NBA and collegiate sporting events including the NCAA.
The company already has a strong presence in the Free State, becoming the official sports betting sponsor of the Baltimore Ravens in August. DraftKings will offer Ravens fans exclusive offers through its platforms, such as game day experiences, autographed merchandise and meet-and-greets with Ravens players.
DraftKings Special Advisor to the Board of Directors Cal Ripken commented: “It was important to me that if I entered this space I would partner with a company that emphasized responsible gaming. With that top of mind, I joined the team at DraftKings and I am thrilled that it will be leading the way here in Maryland.
“Now, sports fans in our state will have access to the DraftKings Sportsbook, a safe and regulated betting option and a respected corporate leader.”
DraftKings will be looking to avoid mistakes made by fellow operator BetMGM, who started taking wagers too early in Maryland. BetMGM had to void all the bets it had taken, refund its customers, as well as paying an additional $50 credit to their accounts – ready for use on the 23rd.
DraftKings is having a very busy November. It has also announced it will be sponsoring the Kindbridge Research Institute’s Military Research Associate Program. This program assists veterans in transitioning from the military to careers in public mental health services.
