Though not an avid sports bettor, Carrot Top, who headlines at MGM Resorts, placed the first bet at the rebranded BetMGM sportsbook inside of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
The bet placed was a $50 bet on the Las Vegas Raiders to win the Super Bowl, a bet that could be worth $2,000.
Carrot Top commented: "I’ve lived here almost 27 years, and I don’t really bet much. That’s probably a good thing. But I love the energy and the action. I love watching the games."
Earlier this year, MGM Resorts International acquired the operations of The Cosmopolitan for $1.63bn.
Anton Nikodemus, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Cosmopolitan, Aria and Vdara, stated that MGM Resorts isn't looking to change much about it.
Nikodemus stated: "It’s really our first opportunity with the integration to bring in a part of MGM to The Cosmopolitan. We’re obviously taking it very slow, ensuring that it’s really an enhancement to the property overall."
William Hill was the former sportsbook operator for the location. Now, the sportsbook is filled with BetMGM signage and kiosks and is fully integrated with the MGM Rewards program.
BetMGM Vice President of Trading Jason Scott said The Cosmopolitan was "a great addition to our stable."
The sportsbook also announced a recent agreement with SportsGrid, a sports betting content company. BetMGM’s trading team members will offer their insights on SportsGrid broadcasts.
The accessibility of The Cosmopolitan sportsbook was mentioned by BetMGM's Vice President of Marketing, Chris Gumiela.
Gumiela said: "It’s right off the casino floor. It’s right on the Strip, so you can come in and you can make a bet. It’s really a great location, and we’re really happy to have the BetMGM brand on the sportsbook now."
