The South Bend casino will expand its gaming area by another 40,000 square feet.

The Four Winds Casino in South Bend, Indiana, has decided to expand its casino gaming floor by adding another 40,000 square feet. The addition is part of a larger construction project that includes an event center and a 23-story hotel.

Four Winds first opened in 2018 by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. It is currently Indiana’s only tribal casino.

Four Winds Casinos COO Frank Freedman said the upcoming upgrades fall in line with the casino’s long-time commitment to serving its guests.

He commented: “During our 15-year-history we’ve continually strived to not only offer something distinctively unique, but also raise the bar for gaming in the Midwest by way of our amenities, dining options, entertainment and excellent service provided by our warm and welcoming staff.

“We are very excited for guests to experience our new slots and table games, and we look forward to showing more of what Four Winds South Bend has to offer in the coming months.”

Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Council Chairwoman Rebecca Richards said upgrades to the complex will offer players and guests a broader range of amenities and entertainment options.

She commented: “The expanded resort brings an amenity and an entertainment experience to South Bend and Northwest Indiana that we didn’t have before.

“It means not only prosperity for [tribal] citizens, but just that opportunity for the local area to experience restaurants, entertainment, meeting space, convention space, and the amenities of a spa and hotel, as well as gaming.”

The expansion will make room for another 850 slots machines and 11 gaming tables to accommodate craps and blackjack.

“When we have built and planned any of our facilities, we do that in which we look for expansion. We build those facilities to have the opportunity to expand at a later date if we so choose,” said Richards.

The hotel project is currently under construction and is scheduled to open early next year. The new structure will be the largest hotel in St. Joseph County once finished, with more than 300 guest rooms available.

In addition to its South Bend casino, the Pokagon own and operates a casino in New Buffalo, Michigan, which is opened in 2007. The tribe also runs two satellite casinos in southwest Michigan.
