The Illinois Gaming Board has released its casino gaming revenue figures for the month of May. Activity dropped statewide during the month, down more than $6m when compared to figures from April.
From April to May, casino gaming revenue declined by 4.8% and dropped from $122.4m to $116.6m. According to the report, the state experienced an overall drop in attendance across the state in many of its venues.
Table games took in more than $30m in revenue for the first time this year, while EGD revenue and slots saw a dramatic decrease. Revenue from EGD and slots totaled $86.5m during May, a 6.8% decline from the previous month.
In a breakdown of the largest revenue per casino, Rivers Casino took the lead in May, generating more than $18.2m in revenue from table games. The Grand Victoria Casino followed behind with $3m in revenue from its table games. Harrah’s grabbed the number three spot, raking in a table game revenue total of more than $2m.
Revenue from video gaming terminal play (VGT) dropped in May as well. Total net income from the state’s terminals reached nearly $231.6m, reflecting a 5.3% decrease from April’s total.
Despite the decreases in revenue and activity from April to May, there is a silver lining regarding the report’s year-over-year figures.
May’s report reflected an 8.9% rise in revenue when compared to the same month last year. Illinois took in $22.7m in taxes, with Rivers Casino contributing close to $12.1m. Local municipalities gained $6.6m in taxes.
The state has brought in a running total of $325.5m in taxes during 2022, surpassing 2021’s corresponding number by $45m.
