March wagering beat out February, which included Super Bowl betting, by 40%.

The Arizona Department of Gaming reported the sports betting numbers from March of 2022 this week. The state hit a record of $691m in March, which exceeded February by 40%.

In the highest month ever for the state, Arizona paid out $652.1m in winnings to bettors. In the total of $691m that was wagered, $687.7m, or 99.5% of the total, was through mobile bets.

Ted Vogt, the Director of the state gaming department, said: "March was an exciting month for Arizona event wagering, with major sporting events like NCAA’s March Madness helping set a single month event wagering handle record."

Vogt continued: "I look forward to seeing how the industry continues to develop as we finish out the first year of legal event wagering in the coming months."

Arizona lists wagering statistics from individual vendors, which is different than Nevada. The three leading companies for both taking wagers and paying winners were DraftKings at $230.2m, FanDuel at $184.6m, and the Las Vegas-based BetMGM at $133.7m.

Other contributing companies were Caesers at $95.8m, WynnBet with $9.9m, and Sahara Bets with just under $73k.

In total, there are 18 brands that operate in Arizona, most of which were added in September. All of the brands are tied to an Arizona tribal casino operation or an Arizona sports venue.

Earlier this month it was revealed that sports betting in Arizona has brought $2.8bn since the practice was legalized.

Mobile apps, which account for most of the wagers in the state, can write off up to 20% of their adjusted gross receipts for the first two years of operation.
