State numbers reflect casino growth and a 19% increase for the fiscal year.

Maryland’s casinos brought in more than $170m in gaming revenue last month, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission. This month’s casino revenue is one of the highest in the state’s history.

March’s numbers reflected an increase of less than 1% compared to the same month last year, when the state lifted its Covid-19 capacity restrictions. Figures from March were also an increase from the previous month. Maryland’s casinos generated a total revenue of almost $163m during the month of February.

Casino revenue as of this month is up by 19% overall for this fiscal year.

Out of the total revenue Maryland’s casinos raked in, almost 40% was contributed to the state’s coffers. The total contributed came to more than $71.9m.

According to the gaming commission, the state’s six casinos brought in more than $52.3m for Maryland’s Education Trust Fund (ETF), a $700,000 increase from the ETF contributions made during the same period last year.

Rankings by casino reflected the same lineup as in February. MGM National Harbor grabbed the top spot in a breakdown of revenue generated. The casino raked in $67.7m. Live! Casino & Hotel grabbed the second spot, generating $62m in revenue, and Horseshoe Casino was third with $18.8m.

Both Live! And MGM’s revenues this month reflected a 2% growth.

Hollywood Casino, Ocean Downs Casino and Rocky Gap Casino followed to generate the rest of the state’s overall casino revenue, with $8.4m, $7.7m and $5.6m respectively.

The state plans to release its sports betting revenue report later this month.
