The Apache Tribe of Oklahoma will hold a celebration to kick off breaking ground for its Apache Lonestar Casino from March 19 to March 20.
The new casino is located across from the travel plaza in Devol, Oklahoma, right off the northeast corner of I-44 and Exit 1. It is expected to have table games, 800 slot machines and a Lonestar Steakhouse.
The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 9am on Saturday in Devol. Other events will take place in Anadarko on Sunday, which include a Blackfoot ceremony, a Gourd dance and Handgame celebration. Food will also be available during the evening.
The tribe has been working on plans to build the casino since last year. Initial phase design concepts were rendered in September 2021. It has posted several progress updates on its official social media page.
The tribe recently posted: “[We are] wanting to invite everyone to come out and celebrate this huge accomplishment for the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma. This is a historical time in our tribe, as you can see a lot of time and effort has been going on behind the scenes to get to this point.”
The tribe also issued a special invitation to all tribal royalty and to past and present landowners to take part in the weekend festivities,
The Apache Tribe of Oklahoma traces its heritage back to Apache groups who first inhabited the Plains region during the 16th century. The tribe has been known historically as the Ka-ta-kas and were later named the Kiowa Apaches.
