MGM Resorts International launches rewards credit card

Powered by Mastercard, this credit card will be tied to MGM Resorts' customer loyalty program.

MGM Resorts International started its new rewards program on February 1, 2022, replacing the previous M Life Rewards program. Today, it has unveiled a credit card to go along with the program and seeks to entice consumers with perks.

The program itself, MGM Rewards, currently has over 34 million members, but the program isn't without criticism. Some loyalty program experts believe the gaming company makes it difficult to earn points.

An example of this is earning Pearl status, which takes 75,000 points to achieve from Gold status. Gaining Platinum status will take members 200,000 points to achieve.

From now until April 7, members who are approved for the MGM Rewards Mastercard will be granted Pearl status automatically. Members will also be able to acquire free parking at the company's venues, of which they have over 20 in the US.

After April 7, the promotion will no longer be available and members will have to spend at least $5,000 on the card over the first six billing periods to achieve Pearl status.

The rewards program is also tied in with BetMGM, allowing members to earn points in the operator's sportsbooks. However, BetMGM already has its own rewards program, which was launched last month along with the MGM Rewards Program. BetMGM is a 50/50 joint venture of MGM Resorts and UK-based Entain Plc.

In February, MGM Resorts’ Vice President of Loyalty Marketing, Anil Mansukhani said this about MGM Rewards: "The enhancements we’ve introduced with MGM Rewards are rooted in feedback shared by our members and allow us to invest in providing members progressively more valuable benefits at each tier, said Anil Mansukhani, MGM Resorts’ Vice President of Loyalty Marketing."
