Gaming contributes $62.5m to education, other state funds.

Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $153,754,114 in gaming revenue during January, according to figures released Wednesday by Maryland Lottery and Gaming.

The regulator said the total represented an increase of $24.9m, or 19.4%, compared to January 2021, when the casinos were operating under capacity restrictions due to Covid-19.

Casino gaming contributions to the state in January 2022 totaled $62.4m, an increase of $8.5m (15.8%) compared to the $53.9m contributed to the state in January 2021.

Officials noted contributions to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) in January 2022 were $45.4m, an increase of $6.2m (16.0%) compared to the $39.2m in ETF contributions for January 2021.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming said casino gaming revenue also supports the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County; Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.

MGM National Harbor, which has 2,122 slot machines and 204 table games, led the way with more than $67m in revenue in January 2022, an increase of $16.5m (32.8%) from January 2021.

Live! Casino & Hotel (3,754 slot machines, 187 table games), reported $54.6m in revenue last month, up $6.8m, or 14.4%, from the same month one year earlier.

Horseshoe Casino said its 1,417 slot machines and 145 table games brought in $16.1m in January 2022, an increase of $2.3m (17.1%) from January 2021.

Hollywood Casino (724 slot machines, 18 table games) had $6.6m in January 2022 revenue, a decrease of $188,947 (-2.8%) year over year.

Ocean Downs Casino, which has 815 slot machines and 18 table games, also saw a decrease in revenue: to $4.9m in January 2022, a drop of $698,163 (-12.3%) from January 2021.

Rocky Gap Casino operates just 626 slot machines and 16 table games, but its revenue increased 1.8% YOY (by $76,353) to $4.3m
