An official announcement could be made during the first half of this year for a deal to bring F1 racing to the Las Vegas Strip, according to Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern, and then supposedly F1 and entities in Las Vegas are advancing closer to a deal.
No details are available regarding who would promote the race, should the deal go through.
F1 and the city have been in deep talks for months. They are now working out details for the specifics and logistics of the race.
The Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and businesses around The Strip, along with F1 executives have visited the area multiple times in recent months.
F1’s effort is being led in part by Global Director of Race Promotion Chloe Targett-Adams. Steve Hill, LVCVA President & CEO Steve Hill is also involved.
Hill was part of a delegation from Vegas who went to the US. Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas last October.
Joe Saward, a Europe-based F1 reporter, reported in November that “the plan is for the track to pass the famous dancing fountains" outside the Bellagio while running about a mile up The Strip to Wynn Las Vegas.
F1 is already adding a second US race this year in Miami. It intends to continue its expansion and wants to run the race in Vegas as soon as next year, though sources cautioned that any delays in the talks could force both sides to wait until 2024.
F1 has declined to comment.
