The move is the latest stage in South American expansion for the European operator.

Betsson Group has grown its footprint in the South American market after a one-year sponsorship agreement was signed with the Colo Colo football club in Chile.

Betsson – the Swedish operator behind betsson.com – has been expanding in South America with great avidity over the last year. This time period has seen it become a sponsor of Peru’s Liga 1, of Chile’s Campeonato de Ascenso, and a digital betting partner of the Chilean La Roja.

With the Colo Colo deal, Betsson can now claim to be aligned with the most popular and successful club in Chile.

Never relegated, over the years it has emerged as the most competitive football team in the country, with 32 titles in the Chilean First Division. It is the only Chilean team to have ever won the hallowed Copa Libertadores. Colo Colo is also due to be one of the participating teams in the CONMEBOL Copa America 2022.

The club was happy with the new agreement. As Colo Colo President Edmundo Valladares commented: “We are very pleased about this sponsorship. Colo Colo is once again synonymous of great and good and attracting such commercial agreements.

“This helps us in positioning ourselves as a very valuable institution, both from a sportive point of view and certainly also on the global arena which we, as leaders of football on a national level, must have.”

Betsson echoed these sentiments of optimism. Said Andrea Rossi, Commercial Director for South America: “In our drive of expanding in the region, we are also partnering up with local football clubs which we can support and grow.

“Besides allowing us to further strengthen our brand awareness in the region, it also gives back to the clubs, allowing them to invest more in their players, staff and facilities, making the sport we all love – football [soccer] - more electrifying.”
