DraftKings: Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominate as Illinois players win big in 2021
The sports betting giant has released some key insights into betting in 2021.
DraftKings, one of the United States’ largest and most influential sports betting operators, has released a number of key insights into its sports betting platform for 2021.
Beginning with team sports, the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs led the pack as the most bet team by handle, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the NBA’s phoenix suns and the Brooklyn Nets followed with the top five most wagered on teams being rounded out by the Green Bay Packers.
In terms of the number of bets placed, the Buccaneers led the way, followed by the Chiefs, the Packers, Buffalo Bills and the LA Dodgers.
Similarly, the Buccaneers won players the most money, while the Chiefs lost players the most, reflecting the result of this year’s Super Bowl.
Moving to individual athletes, Conor McGregor, somewhat surprisingly, was DraftKings’ most bet on athlete by handle, with Novak Djokovic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Dustin Poirier coming in behind.
In the world of women’s sports, the US Women’s National Soccer Team dominated betting, claiming the most bets by handle and most bets placed. Similarly, Serena Williams led both categories with her rival and competitor Naomi Osaka coming in a close second.
The most bet on game of 2021, in both handle and the sheer number of bets was, unsurprisingly, the 2021 Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In second came the Buccaneers vs the New England Patriots.
Mike Evans, the wide receiver for the Buccaneers, brought bettors the most joy in 2021, winning them the most money. Meanwhile, bets placed on Travis Kelce lost players the most money.
Players in Illinois won the most money this year, followed by New Jersey residents and in third came bettors in Indiana. Patrons in Wyoming had the worst time of it, coming in as the least successful state by winnings.
Unsurprisingly, much of these results center around the Super Bowl which took place early in 2021; however, there are intriguing insights to be found, most notably the success of players in Illinois.
