As of September 30, FanDuel has begun operating its sports betting platform in the state of Connecticut. In partnership with Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, a temporary sportsbook has launched at Bow & Arrow Sports Bar with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that featured Connecticut Governor, Ned Lamont, who also placed a ceremonial first bet.
Lamont placed the first legal sports bet in Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun FanDuel Sportsbook, which was $50 on the Connecticut Sun to win by more than 7.5 points tonight vs. the Chicago Sky.
Also at the event were Wayne Chrebet and Darius Butler, of NFL fame, both placed $20 bets on football matches taking place this week.
"To now be able to offer sports betting for Mohegan Sun guests is quite a thrill and a milestone that was a long time in the making," said Jeff Hamilton, president, and general manager of Mohegan Sun.
The temporary sportsbook features just fewer than 50 self-service betting terminals. However, as sports betting is regulated throughout the state, which is expected to happen on October 7, Mohegan and FanDuel will launch a revamped version of the venue. This new sportsbook will be 11,000 square feet and feature a 140 foot high-resolution video wall as well as a bar and restaurant. This will be one FanDuel’s largest venues in the US.
"This day wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and tireless work from our parent company, MGE, my incredible team at Mohegan Sun, leadership with the Mohegan Tribe, Governor Lamont, and the State of Connecticut, and our partners at FanDuel Group. This gaming expansion will bring jobs, excitement, and other positive economic impacts to Mohegan Sun and across Connecticut, and we can't wait to hit the ground running," concluded Hamilton.
Recently, Genius Sports was awarded a betting license in Connecticut prior to the state-wide launch on October 7. Genius will provide operators with data and statistics on the NFL, NBA, NHL, and Nascar.
