The four land-based casinos in Ohio brought in more than $86.8m in revenue during May 2021, just missing the marks from March and April.
According to figures released by the Ohio Casino Control Commission, the properties saw $91.6m in revenue in March, followed by $92.5m in April.
The March and April revenue numbers were a big jump from January ($64.8m) and February ($67.6m). Casinos in the Buckeye State were closed during specified hours from November 19, 2020, through February 11, 2021, per directives issued by the Ohio Department of Health.
Revenue for May 2021 was down 6.2% from the previous month.
Ohio casinos had 347 gaming tables running in May 2021, a small increase from 324 and 327 the previous two months. Similarly, last month there were 5,050 slot machines in operation, compared to 4,767 in March and 4,723 in April.
Slot revenue has declined the past two months after hitting $68.0m in March. Gross slot revenue was $65.6m in April and $62.2m in May.
The drop in overall gaming revenue was consistent for all four properties in the state. Jack Cleveland (pictured) had $24.0m in revenue in April, then $22.4m in May. At Hollywood Columbus the figures were $24.6m in April, $23.0m in May. Hard Rock Cincinnati brought in $21.2m in April, $19.7m in May, while Hollywood Toledo dropped exactly $1m from $22.5m to $21.5m.
The revenue figures for the past three months were an improvement from two years ago, before the pandemic closures and restrictions that skewed the 2020 numbers. The 2019 results showed March as higher than April or May.
In March 2019 Ohio casinos reported $81.0m in revenue, followed by $70.5m in April and $73.4m in May.
