AGA to offer new research internship for graduate students

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has formed a new Applied Research Experience Internship for graduate students, offering the opportunity to conduct funded research related to the US gaming industry.
Students at the Master’s level or above will propose original research projects using primary or secondary data, with a select few being chosen to design and lead the projects with up to $5,000 in funding from the AGA.
“This program reinforces the AGA’s commitment to strengthening the research foundation that supports a responsible and innovative industry,” AGA Director of Research Dr. Carly Johnson said.
“We’re proud to support the next generation of researchers whose insights will advance our understanding of the issues shaping gaming’s future.”
The AGA also stated “ideal candidates will demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods and an interest in the intersection of gambling research, consumer behavior and industry operations.”
Students meeting such requirements are able to submit proposals through January 30, 2026, while interviews are expected to be conducted by the AGA on a rolling basis through early February 2026.
Those looking to participate in the research internship will conduct their work under the supervision of the AGA research team, with additional opportunities for regular mentorship and structured guidance also provided.
The students will work with the AGA to form a “cadence and scope” which should also satisfy individual academic requirements. The $5,000 will help fund projects hoping to “achieve academic rigor” while utilizing “practical industry application.”
